How much will it cost to live in New Zealand?

The tertiary student’s budget for living expenses per year can go up to NZ$10,000. The expenses generally include the food, accommodation, public transport, telephone charges, entertainment and other miscellaneous expenditures. The living costs may vary based on the life style of the student.

How much is the tuition fee?

New Zealand offers world class and cost effective education for foreign students at competitive price tag. The cost would range anywhere between NZ$ 13,500 to NZ$ 16,000 per annum. This would vary from one institution to other and course to course also.

When do the courses commence?

The university courses usually begin in late February or early March which includes an orientation week, and the year ends in October. Though every university has its own timetable; however in general the year is differentiated into two semesters of about 12 weeks each. Majority of the courses are “full year” courses that last for two semesters, however few courses are of single semester, which makes it possible to join university course in July. Institutes offering Technical courses and TAFE classes are of two semesters, first semester session duration is February to June and second semester duration is July to November.

What kind of student accommodation is available?

New Zealand offers a wide choice of accommodations for the students to choose from. Majority of the universities offer accommodation in halls of residence/hostels and other options like private apartments/houses, home stay with a family, etc are different accommodation options available at affordable prices.

Can I work part -time while studying?

Students that have opted for a full-time course of study resulting in a recognized diploma or degree, that is completed in at least one academic year & the students undergoing a full time course of study leading to a qualification that would earn for points under the Skilled Migrant Category may be subject to variation of conditions in their student permit that allow them to work for 20 hours per week and fulltime during semester/annual breaks.

What is an IELTS and how do I take the exam?

IELTS (International English language testing system) exam tests the English proficiency of teat takers in the field of English speaking, listening, reading and writing skills. IELTS examination is conducted by the British council. They arrange tests in both the standard and academic English. Most of the universities accept only the academic English test results. I am waiting for my final results/IELTS; can I still submit my application to the University?

Yes one can submit the application with the university even if the result is awaited. However, it is recommended to complete your application formalities by submitting the result report at the earliest.

Can I study part-time?

No, all the foreign students have to study full time to fulfill the student permit requirements with the NZ Immigration Services.

Will the University help me in finding job placement when I’ve graduated?

No, however the university time to time organizes career fairs where the employers meet with students who will graduate very soon. The Student Job Service available on the campus time to time lists current positions available both for graduate positions and student jobs.  Student Services also includes the career center, which Keeps students informed about career decisions & how they might use their capabilities and qualifications to fulfill their career aim. It is a universal truth that if the student completes the course successfully students’ expectations will be fulfilled & the carrier goal will become a reality.

If I don’t meet the entry requirements for a postgraduate program, are there any alternatives available to me?

Yes, the students have the option to enroll for postgraduate foundation programs that prepares graduates to take up the postgraduate programs. If the students enroll for the bridge courses the duration of the masters’ degree automatically increases & adds up in the usual years of study.
